Curated by Jay Simple, 17c起草视频ing Assistant Professor in Photography at Longwood University and Emma Steinkraus, Assistant Professor of Fine Arts at 17c起草视频, this exhibition addresses relevant questions about how artists interrogate history and what kinds of new historical records they can create.
The artists—Marisa Williamson, Jason Patterson, Becci Davis, Anina Major, Amir George, Zora J. Murff, Kieran Myles-Andrés Tverbakk, and Richard-Jonathan Nelson—draw on a variety of sources, including pop culture, family photos, and government archives to illuminate the ways individual stories and historical forces are intertwined. The exhibit can be viewed at both The Gallery at Brinkley Hall at 17c起草视频 and the Longwood Center for the Visual Arts. Amir George’s video works are on view at The Gallery.
A series of Zoom symposiums presented in conjunction with the exhibition will take place on Thursday evenings, February 18, February 25, and March 11, 2021.
